About this worksheet

This is a one-page monthly budget you fill in with a pen. At the top you write what you expect to earn and what actually arrived. Below that are twelve everyday spending categories — rent, groceries, dining out, transport, utilities, phone and internet, insurance, health, shopping, entertainment, savings and other — plus two blank rows for anything that is yours alone.

For each category you set a budget at the start of the month, then add up what you really spent at the end. The remaining and % used columns show where the money went. A simple rule helps: when a category passes 80% before the month is over, slow down; when actual is bigger than budget, move money from another line instead of borrowing from next month.

The small log at the bottom is for the purchases you want to remember. Many people find that writing down the coffee, the taxi and the small online order for just one month is what finally shows them their real spending.

The page uses the same categories as the Monthly Budget spreadsheet in our template pack, so you can start on paper and move to the spreadsheet later without re-thinking your categories. The numbers are yours — nothing is sent anywhere.

General information only, not financial advice. For decisions about debt, investing or taxes, talk to a qualified professional.
