About this worksheet

Writing your own name is the fastest way into the Korean alphabet, because you already know how it sounds. This free page shows the format of our name tracing pack using one example, Olivia, which is written 올리비아 in Korean. Each syllable block is broken into its letters — 올 is ㅇ + ㅗ + ㄹ — with the sound underneath, so you can see why the name is spelled the way it is.

The first row is the model. The next three rows have the name in light grey so you can trace over it, which trains the stroke order and the proportions of each block. The last rows are empty so you can write it on your own. Most learners need three to five rounds before the blocks start to look balanced.

At the bottom there are blank grids for your own name. If you do not know how your name is spelled in Hangul, our free converter shows the standard spelling used in Korea, the common alternative and a letter-by-letter explanation. Names borrowed from English often have more than one accepted spelling, so do not worry if a Korean friend writes yours a little differently.

Print it on plain paper at 100%. Teachers can print one copy per student and fill in names by hand.
