Spreadsheet mock test

Free spreadsheet mock test for Excel skills: 20 minutes, 15 questions

A timed practice round in the style of the short spreadsheet tests used when hiring for data entry, MIS, accounts and analyst jobs. Answer on screen, get your score and a weak-area check instantly.

Read the two small tables first if you like — the clock starts only when you press Start. You can change answers until you finish. No spreadsheet app needed; a pen and paper help.

Data for the questions (sheet “Sales” and sheet “Products”)

Sheet Sales — headers in row 1, orders in rows 2–13. Price and Amount in Indian rupees (₹).

1What does =VLOOKUP("P04",Products!A2:E9,4,FALSE) return?
2The product code (column A) is to the left of the product name (column B). Which formula returns the code of “Desk Lamp”?
3=VLOOKUP("P09",Products!A2:E9,4,FALSE) shows #N/A because P09 does not exist. Which formula shows “Not found” instead?
4What does =COUNTIF(C2:C13,"East") return?
5What does =SUMIFS(H2:H13,C2:C13,"East",I2:I13,"Delivered") return?
6Which formula counts the orders with 20 or more units?
7You need a pivot table with total Amount for each Region, and one column per Status. Where do the fields go?
8You drag Amount into Values and the pivot shows “Count of Amount” instead of “Sum of Amount”. What is the most likely cause?
9A pivot of this table has Product in Rows and Sum of Units in Values, sorted largest to smallest. Which product is at the top?
10Highlight the whole row (A2:I13) when Status is Returned. Which conditional-formatting formula is correct?
11Highlight Amount cells (H2:H13) that are above the average Amount. Which rule formula is correct?
12The rule =$F2>=20 is applied to A2:I13. How many rows get highlighted?
13Row 3 has Amount ₹6,400. What does =IF(H3>=20000,"Big",IF(H3>=5000,"Mid","Small")) return?
14D2 contains “Vikram J.”. What does =LEFT(D2,FIND(" ",D2)-1) return?
15B2 is the date 22-Mar-2026. What does =EOMONTH(B2,0) show (formatted as a date)?

What this mock test covers

Most practical spreadsheet rounds check the same five skills, so the 15 questions are split three per area: lookups (VLOOKUP with an exact match, INDEX + MATCH, IFERROR), counting and summing with conditions (COUNTIF, SUMIFS), pivot tables (field layout, Sum vs Count), conditional formatting (formula rules and $ references) and text, dates and IF (nested IF, LEFT + FIND, EOMONTH).

The questions work on a small table you can read on screen, so you can take the test on a phone. In a real test you usually type the formulas into a workbook; after this round, open any spreadsheet app, copy the 12 rows into a sheet starting at A1 and type each formula to check your speed.

Questions

Are these the questions companies actually use?

No. Every question and every number here was written by us on fictional data for practice. They follow the common topics of office spreadsheet tests, but no employer's real test is copied, and a good score does not guarantee any job result.

Does it work with Google Sheets or LibreOffice?

Yes. All the functions in this test work the same way in desktop spreadsheet apps and in Google Sheets. Menu names for pivot tables and conditional formatting differ slightly.

Is my score saved anywhere?

No. Scoring runs in your browser. There is no form, no account, no cookie and nothing is sent to a server. Closing or reloading the page clears your answers.

How should I use 20 minutes?

About a minute per question, with five minutes to go back over the ones you skipped. Answer the easy ones first; the timer turns red at two minutes.
