How the chart is calculated

• Year pillar: changes at the exact moment of Ipchun (Start of Spring), cycling through the 60 stem-branch pairs.
• Month pillar: changes at each of the 12 sectional solar terms; the month stem follows the year stem (traditional "five tigers" rule).
• Day pillar: continuous 60-day cycle from the Julian Day Number. By default the day changes at 23:00 local solar time; an option splits the Rat hour.
• Hour pillar: two-hour blocks of local solar time; the hour stem follows the day stem.
• Solar terms: the Sun's apparent longitude from the VSOP87 model (PyEphem), pre-computed for 1899–2101 and checked against the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (e.g., Ipchun 2024 = Feb 4, 17:27 KST).
• Time zones: your local clock time is converted with the IANA time-zone database (including historical daylight saving), then corrected by longitude (4 min per degree) and optionally the equation of time.
• Korean lunar dates: new moons and principal terms computed with the same model and split by historical Korean standard time (1900–2100).
• Strength: share of supporting characters (Companion/Rob Wealth and Resource) among the seven non-Day-Master characters, weighting the month branch ×3 and day branch ×1.5. ≥55% strong, ≤40% gentle.
• Luck cycles: forward for yang-year males and yin-year females, otherwise backward; starting age = days to the next (or previous) sectional term ÷ 3.

Schools differ on some of these conventions; this tool applies the rules above consistently.

Privacy

We never send your birth date, time, place or sex to a server, and we don't store them. All calculation happens in JavaScript in your browser. No cookies, accounts or analytics scripts are used (our host, Cloudflare, may keep standard access logs). The only exception is the paid reading page (/saju/report/): your purchase code and birth details are sent to our server (Cloudflare Pages Functions) to create the reading and are discarded right away — never stored or logged (processor: Cloudflare, USA, under Standard Contractual Clauses). • Merchant of record: Gumroad. Price $9 USD, taxes calculated at checkout.
• What you get: access to the reading page (/saju/en/report/) — enter your purchase code (Gumroad license key) and birth details to create your reading (save as PDF). One purchase = up to 5 reports (one per person); requires your purchase code. No one-to-one consultation, Q&A or custom writing.
• Refunds: Instant digital download. Because the files are delivered right away, we can't refund a change of mind after purchase. If a file won't open, is broken, isn't as described, or you were charged twice, email us — we'll fix it, or refund you in full if we can't. If you buy from the EU or UK and weren't asked at checkout to agree to immediate delivery, your statutory right to cancel still applies. At checkout we ask you to agree to immediate delivery.
