Monthly Budget Tracker

Privacy & help

What happens to the numbers you type

  • They stay on your device. The tracker saves your months in your browser's localStorage under the name bt565. The page makes no network requests with your data; there is no server database, no account and no analytics on this tool.
  • No cookies are set by this tool.
  • Other people using the same browser profile can see your budget. Use a private profile or delete the data when you're done on a shared computer.
  • Private / incognito windows may not save at all, or forget everything when closed. The tracker tells you if saving is blocked — export a CSV before closing.

How to delete your data

Press Delete all my data at the bottom of the tracker, or clear site data for tools.dojito.com in your browser settings. To clear only one month, open that month and press Clear this month.

Moving to another device

Press Export CSV for each month you want, send the file to yourself, then press Import CSV on the other device. The file's first line says which month it is. You can also edit the CSV in a spreadsheet and import it back, as long as the columns stay the same (Section, Category, Planned, Actual).

Sources

Categories, sample amounts and the Over / Watch (80%) / OK rule come from our own Monthly Budget spreadsheet template. The 50/30/20 rule is a widely used rule of thumb for splitting take-home pay; the page explains it in our own words. Code, text and images are original. No third-party fonts, scripts or images are loaded.
